Sunday Life Groups Meet at 10:45 AM following Worship
Shalom- Room 212
Sister, we have a place for you! We are a group of women of all backgrounds, varying in ages, yet we all have experiences to share and would be happy to welcome you into our family. We have studied series from Shane Stanford, Elizabeth George, Max Lucado and we have used the Cokesbury Adult Bible Series.
Once a month we visit the residents of Aldersgate to share cookies, games and ourselves. Individually we choose a day or two a month to deliver Meals on Wheels, work the festivals, volunteer for the wonderful five days of Vacation Bible School, help with our youth, and serve side-by-side with others on our Sunday morning greeting team. God is so good. Shalom, y’all. Study leaders – Carrol Barham, Cathy Ellis, Robin Thompson, Maria Yates, & Elena Saxon
Philos- Room 229 (The parlor)
The Philos class is a young adult to middle adult age class. We are a group of people just trying to figure out how to work this thing called life, and we want Christ at the front of it. We usually discuss the sermon and points that really stuck with us. We love meeting to discuss and drink coffee after worship, but we also get together outside of the Sunday School time. We invite you to come have some coffee with us, dig deeper into God's word, and connect through day to day living!
Families of Faith- Room 238
Our class consists of a mix of marrieds and singles with school age to college age children exploring different biblical subjects including books of the bible, biblical leaders and life application of biblical concepts. These are taught through different mediums including video, Internet streaming and member-led lessons and discussion. We participate in other church activities such as VBS, Festivals, and 2nd Mile Missions. Teacher: Steven Brown
St. Andrews Class- Room 206
We are a class of “older” ladies and gentlemen; however, any age is welcome. We have three teachers who lead us through the Cokesbury Bible Study Series and we strive to take the biblical lessons and apply them to our lives today. We support church activities, missions and local community needs through individual efforts and/or class participation, such as Vacation Bible School, Circle of Friends and our Festivals. We also make monetarily contributions to 2nd Mile Missions, Wesley House, L.O.V.E.’s Kitchen, South Harbor Shelter, and Vacation Bible School. On a national level we contribute through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief). Come join us and share in God’s word. Teachers: Bobby Sims, Emma Atkinson, and Shirley Dooley
Genesis- Room 213
Come and join us, male or female, young or old, single or married. There are no limits. That is true of our gender and age and generally can refer to our class discussion as well. We continue to seek God’s will for our class, our church and for each of us individually.
Currently we discuss questions the Pastor provides each week that take us deeper into the sermon we just heard. The discussion can get lively at times. We want every opinion to be heard.
We like to eat. Yes, it’s as simple as that. Someone is always up for lunch after worship or a Friday/Saturday night trip to any dining establishment near or far. We also like to meet up at football games and basketball games. We are ardent supporters, personally and monetarily, of the witness experiences Poplar Springs Drive UMC offers- greeting team, scripture readers, ushers, and the Festivals, Vacation Bible School, Love’s Kitchen and Habitat for Humanity. We pledge as a class to make a difference through 2nd Mile Missions giving. We seek out opportunities to impact a local family with the love of Christ during the holidays. We look forward to seeing you. Study Leaders: Irby Lang, Angie Sherrill, Grady Coleman and Dianne Shannon.
Men of Faith (Men of all ages)- Room 202
We focus on understanding scripture and applying it to daily life. Discussion is usually related to the morning sermon. Men of all ages are invited.
GIGGLES- (Room 314) Prayer Room
Our class name stands for Girls In God, Growing, Loving, Empowering, and Sharing. We use the term "girls" loosely! Some of us are admittedly over the hill, and some of us aren't even close to it, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously and enjoy getting to know each other on a more personal level...sharing our lives, our thoughts, Bible study, and laughs along the way. Our class reads through different devotionals/studies that interest us as a class and discuss them. We try to apply what we are learning to our daily lives to bring us closer to God. We welcome all to come try our class, sit back, relax, and grow with you. Teacher: Ann Carol Purvis
Youth- Third Floor (Youth Hall)
This is open to students from grades 6 - 12. Each Sunday morning after the service, we spend time reflecting on Pastor Chuck's sermon through questions provided by the pastor or tweaks on the questions made by our parent-volunteer teacher, Mrs. Debbie Young. During each lesson we share stories, jokes, and Jesus often all in the same discussion in our search for truth. Mrs. Debbie teaches the class while Mrs. Janet Barham and Mr. Joey Coxwell assist in guiding the discussions. The class is full of fun, friendship, and truth around scripture. So grab some coffee and a tasty snack, then head our way! We would love for you to come belong with us!
Children - Third Floor (Children’s Hall)
Ages 3 years (must be potty trained) to 5th grade
We have GREAT leadership! Each lesson includes teaching the Bible story, creating an associated craft, and other fun activities. Each Sunday morning the children have the opportunity to engage with one another in the Family Center with a time for sharing the highlights of their week and meeting visitors. This is also a time to share prayer concerns followed by a teacher or child leading the group in prayer before heading to individual class rooms. Moms and Dads, leave your child with us while you go to a class of your own. Your children will be in good hands, with hearts for serving the Lord.
